Costilla Creek

The Costilla Creek is just a mile south of the Colorado border and is mostly public access. It’s a meandering stream that winds through vast meadows and valleys reminiscent of Montana's high country. The Costilla boasts one of the stronghold populations of Rio Grande Cutthroat trout. The public water is divided into two sections, the RCCLA which is accessible year-round, and the Valle Vidal which is accessible from July 1st until December 31. This stream is dry fly/dropper nymph heaven. The strikes from the fish can be amazingly fast, so your reflexes will be put to a fun (and sometimes frustrating) test. Typically we try to only guide the Costilla Creek mid-week since weekends can get crowded. This is the perfect place to bring larger groups that require multiple guides. The scenery is incredible.
